Research Paper What Is a Flat Plate Solar Collector

Research Paper: What Is a Flat Plate Solar Collector? As people become more aware of the environmental problems, they try to reconsider their way of living and make their households both environmentally-friendly and more economical. They start to equip their houses with new technological gadgets that take advantage of natural energy, such as, for instance, solar power. One of the most successful representatives of ‘green’ technology is a flat plate solar collector. It exploits the ability of sunlight to produce heat and has a lot of potential for the effective use in our households. In most cases the flat plate solar collector is used to provide hot water. When installed in a proper place, it is capable of generating large amounts of heat within short periods of time and reducing your expenses on energy. One of the disadvantages of all solar power gadgets and flat plate solar collectors in particular is their inability to produce power without sunlight. Luckily, this problem can be addressed in two possible ways. You can use a combined heating system at your household, which is mostly dependent on solar power, but switches to ordinary power supply when there is a lack of sunlight. Alternatively, you can install a special system that accumulates the heat, collected during the day. Despite these obvious benefits of solar collectors, many people are discouraged from purchasing them by the costly price. However, it has been estimated that a flat pl ate solar collector saves up about 80% of your energy bill and pays for itself within 4 years. As you can see, in the long run it offers whopping advantages to the household owners. All in all, a flat plate solar collector is a good alternative or supplement to your conventional power system and is worth giving a try.

The Crime Of Domestic Security - 1751 Words

Domestic security is a growing concern in the modern times where there is more advanced weaponry in the hands of crime perpetrators. The nature of crime has also advanced where criminals have developed more brilliant methods to affect their criminal activities (Davis et al 42). Traditionally, police were accustomed to soft force by criminal and there was no eminent need to militarize their operations. For instance, drug traffickers and terrorists are currently equipped with the most current weaponry technology. Their structure of crime is also more complex and requires an equivalent amount of force to subdue. Other kinds of criminals such organized gangs especially in the US poses great danger to the security of the nation and do not require ordinary policing force to subdue. This has led to development of counterinsurgency units within the local police to be able to deal with such forces of organized crimes. There is therefore the need for the local police units to adopt military te chniques in order to counter the criminal activities with an equivalent amount of force. Drug and terrorism control are the main phenomenon crimes in the US and ordinary policing force cannot suppress them and there is need for more tactical approach (Kraska and Victor 11). Future of Cultural Diversity Free Essays

This paper is intended to voice my hopes on the future of cultural diversity and explain how we could use the knowledge of each other’s culture to build humanity and to bring about social reform for all people. It will also give examples of diversity challenges and opportunities. The world as we know it has 6. We will write a custom essay sample on Future of Cultural Diversity or any similar topic only for you Order Now 76 billion people, with Asia accounting for over 60% of the world’s population. These numbers certainly mean that the world that we live in has a diverse group of people and these people make up thousands of ethic groups, with each in the group different. Our differences require us to value different learning styles and to understand and identify each other’s work and social and lifestyles. Cultural differences in groups of people determine what language they speak, how they dress, their traditions, their concept of values and morals and how they interact with each other and the environment as well as how they are treated. Culture influences how people manage their daily lives. According to the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity, UNESCO (2001), culture is defined as, â€Å"the set of distinctive spiritual, material, intellectual and emotional features of society or a social group. It encompasses, in addition to art and literature, lifestyles, ways of living together, value systems, traditions and beliefs. † Our culture influences our choices and lifestyles for many years and for some, for life because some people maintain their attachment to their beliefs and a particular way of living throughout their lives. I have discovered when a society is not allowed to socialize beyond their immediate contexts, they lack socially, politically and their choices in life do not include wide ranges of options. I believe that is it important to experience the cultures of others because those experiences tend to broaden an individual’s life, allows them to become more balanced, well rounded individuals and expands their range of choices in life. I remember particularly when I lived in the Adams Morgan neighborhood about five years ago was when I truly gained an appreciation for the culture the Asians and Latinos. I enjoyed their foods, styles of dress, form of entertainment and learned to understand their belief and their value systems. I also came to understand their blight with having to struggle with poverty and a language barrier and a lack of understanding of American culture. I remember particularly while serving as President of my condo association, one Latino family knocked on my door to report that their light bulb in the kitchen needed to be replaced. I had to gently tell them that now that they owned their unit, it was their responsibility to change their florescent light bulb in their kitchen and went on to tell them they could purchase one at the local home depot. Yet for other, they saw homeownership as a vehicle to gain financial and social acceptance in the states. During my research to write this paper, I have discovered that it is critically important to be culturally sensitive to other’s beliefs, especially in the work environment. Showing cultural sensitivity to others shows that we care about people and are concerned about human expansion. People have a human right to have their own cultural experiences and interests because that is what is essential to their human survival. Freedom of religion and/or religious expression is a fundamental human right under the U. S. Constitution. It is the right of an individual to worship publicly or privately in practice and observance of whatever religion they choose. By understanding why a person believes in a particular faith provides us with insight into that faith and helps us to understand whey people do certain religious rituals At Honda, one of the nation’s leading automakers, their top recruiters make it a point to hire a diverse staff. All of their employees are encouraged to learn Japanese so that they can communicate effectively with their suppliers and clients. Having a diverse workforce has its advantages, as it allows more creativity and sensitivity to solving problems more effectively. According to a business publication â€Å"Cultural Diversity and your future†, when companies hire people from different cultural groups in the community, their public image improves. When a company broadens their scope of hiring, it increases competition because an employer will get the best candidates from many different ethic groups. Employees benefit as well because they are now put in a position to communicate the benefits of a product to their clients of the same ethic background. My daughter who is an Attorney, was recently hired to work in a law firm in Greenbelt, Maryland, not only because of her competence, but because the firm did not have any African American Attorneys. Shortly after, the firm also hired an Asian female who would be able to serve their Asian clients. Since hiring the two mentioned above, business had increased for the firm. In conclusion, we live in a world of different cultures, race, ethnicity and religious beliefs. Embracing cultural awareness does not imply that we adopt a person’s moral beliefs, but rather allows us to find out what people believe in, why they believe and use that knowledge to find out what makes sense to the people we serve or encounter daily. My belief is that we should not avoid cultural interaction but openly embrace it as it can reveal better ways of challenging harmful cultural practices and belief as well as strengthen positive ones and sharing those beneficial cultural practices throughout the world. Iphs Standards for 100 Bedded Hospital free essay sample

These hospitals should play an important referral link between the Community Health Centres, Primary Health Centres and sub-centres. They have an important role to play as First Referral Units in providing emergency obstetrics care and neonatal care and help in bringing down the Maternal Mortality and Infant Mortality. It also saves the travel time for the cases needing emergency care and reduces the workload of the district hospital. In some of the states, each district is subdivided in to two or three sub divisions. A subdivision hospital caters to about 5-6 lakhs people. In bigger districts the sub-district hospitals fills the gap between the block level hospitals and the district hospitals. There are about 1200 such hospitals in the country with a varying strength of number of beds ranging from 50 to 100 beds or more. The Government of India is strongly committed to strengthen the health sector for improving the availability, accessibility of affordable quality health services to the people. We will write a custom essay sample on Iphs Standards for 100 Bedded Hospital or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In order to improve the quality and accountability of health services a set of standards need to be there for all health service institutions including sub-district hospitals. Standards are a means of describing the level of quality that health care organizations are expected to meet or aspire to. The key aim of standard is to underpin the delivery of quality services which are fair and responsive to client’s needs, which should be provided equitably and which deliver improvements in health and well being of the population. Standards are the main driver for continuous improvements in quality. The performance of Sub-district hospitals can be assessed against a set of standards. There has been effort to set standards for 30 and 100 bedded hospitals by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). However, these standards are considered very resource intensive and lack the process to ensure community involvement, accountability and citizens charter issues that are important for public hospitals. Under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), the concept of Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) for the Health Centres/ Hospitals functioning in the country. IPHS for CHC, PHC and Sub-centres have been finalized available on the ministry’s website www. mohfw. nic. in. The current effort is to prepare Indian Public Health Standards for the Sub-district Hospitals. Reference has been made to the BIS Standard for 100 bedded hospitals; Rationalisation of Service Norms for Secondary Care Hospitals prepared by Govt. f Tamil Nadu; District Health Facilities, Guidelines for Development and Operations, WHO, 1998 and Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) for Community Health Centres. 3 Setting standards is a dynamic process. This document contains the standards to bring the Sub-district Hospitals to a minimum acceptable functional grade with scope for further improvement in it. These standards are flexible as per the requirements and resources available to the concerned State/UT Gov ernment. The timeframe for implementation and achievement of these Standards could be extended for five years and to be done in phases. Most of the existing hospitals below district level (51-100 Bed category) are located in older buildings in urbanized areas / towns as compared to most Primary Health Centres / Sub-centres. The expansions already done have resulted in construction touching the boundaries walls with no scope of further expansions. As far as possible, States should not dislocate the said hospitals to a new location (in case of dislocating to a new location, the original client group will not be able to have same access to the desired health facilities) . Objectives of Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) for Sub-District Hospitals: The overall objective of IPHS is to provide health care that is quality oriented and sensitive to the needs of the people of the district. The specific objectives of IPHS for Sub District Hospitals are: i. ii. iii. To provide comprehensive secondary health care (specialist and referral services) to the community through the Sub District Hospital. To achieve and maintain an acceptable standard of quality of care.

Annotations in Reading, Research, and Linguistics

Annotations in Reading, Research, and Linguistics An annotation is a  note, comment, or  concise statement of the key ideas in a text or a portion of a text and is commonly used in reading instruction and in research. In corpus linguistics, an annotation is a coded note or comment that identifies specific linguistic features of a word or sentence. One of the most common uses of annotations is in essay composition, wherein a student might annotate a larger work he or she is referencing, pulling and compiling a list of quotes to form an argument. Long-form essays and term papers, as a result, often come with an annotated bibliography, which includes a list of references as well as brief summaries of the sources. There are many ways to annotate a given text, identifying key components of the material by underlining, writing in the margins, listing cause-effect relationships, and noting confusing ideas with question marks beside the statement in the text. Identifying Key Components of a Text When conducting research, the process of annotation is almost essential to retaining the knowledge necessary to understand a texts key points and features and can be achieved through a number of means. Jodi Patrick Holschuh  and Lori Price Aultman  describe a students goal for annotating text in Comprehension Development, wherein the students are responsible for pulling out not only the main points of the text but also the other key information (e.g., examples and details) that they will need to rehearse for exams. Holschuh and Aultman go on to describe the many ways a student may isolate key information from a given text, including writing brief summaries in the students own words, listing out characteristics and cause-and-effect relations in the text, putting key information in graphics and charts, marking possible test questions, and underlining keywords or phrases or putting a question mark next to confusing concepts. REAP: A Whole-Language Strategy According to  Eanet Manzos 1976 Read-Encode-Annotate-Ponder strategy for teaching students language and reading comprehension, annotation is a vital part of a students ability to understand any given text comprehensively. The process involves the following four steps: Read to discern the intent of the text or the writers message; Encode the message into a form of self-expression, or write it out in students own words; Analyze by writing this concept in a note; and Ponder or reflect on the note, either through introspection or discussing with peers. The Role of Research Methods in Education Essay

The Role of Research Methods in Education - Essay Example Many different approaches have been developed for researchers internationally supporting their work in all its aspects especially regarding the gathering of data/ info that is necessary for the development of various scientific projects. It should be noticed that scientific projects are not necessarily practical, i.e. they do not refer only to mathematical figures (statistics etc.); they can also be theoretical, i.e. referring to the structure and the effectiveness of a specific theoretical model (e.g. Porter’s five forces - in the business sector). In the case of education both the above forms of research, i.e. the practical and the theoretical one are likely to be used by all participants in the educational environment (educators, school administrators, students) when having to conduct research on a specific issue which is included in the curriculum. The value of research in education cannot be doubted; various views have been stated regarding the role of research in various educational areas. We could refer indicatively to the study of Randall et al. (1999) who noticed that ‘research in education is a value-free, unbiased, neutral, social scientific pursuit of truth, using the best methods, and models available—or so we were told when we were learning the craft’ (Randall et al., 1999, 7). In other words, research in education cannot be stable; it should be rather active and dynamic being changed continuously in accordance with the needs of the students, the characteristics of the educational environment and the ability of a specific educational organization to respond to the needs and the demands of a particular research project. It should also be noticed that research in education does not have a specific form; it can have either qualitative or quantitative characteristics or even both of them (after appropr iate transformation of the relevant research framework).

Combating Terrorism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Combating Terrorism - Essay Example It was necessary to make arrangements for refueling of aircrafts in Kenya (Taillon, 2002). It also had to coordinate with the French government in order to be able to acquire information from one of the released hostages who was a French national. This would not be possible without the agreement of the French in spite of the former hostage also being of Jewish decent (Taillon, 2002). The Israeli government also had to coordinate with the United States military that provided satellite images of the area. During the operation the Israeli government also had to work with the Kenyan government in order to allow Israeli planes to land safely in Nairobi and to have planes that carried reserve fuel to be land at Mombasa (Taillon, 2002). Coordination with the British was also necessary in to ensure that the rescue plane landed at Entebbe just after British cargo planes. After the successful operation it was still necessary for coordination in order for the rescued hostages to land in Nairobi and to be treated their. The Kenyan government provided medical services and food for the released hostages (Taillon, 2002). According to Shoran, the rescue mission proved that terrorism could be countered effectively and it was an endeavor worth cooperating for (BBC NEWS, 1976). The irately operation however had repercussions some of which were serious to those affected. One of the things that happened afterwards was, Iddi Amin, the then president of Uganda having suspected that Kenya colluded with Israel during the planning of the raid sort to hit back (BBC NEWS, 1976). The humiliated president ordered the massacre of hundreds of Kenyans who had been living in Uganda. Another quite obvious repercussion was the loss of lives of some of the Jewish people. First of all, some of the hostages died during the operation. Second, Netanyahu an army officer and other soldiers also lost their lives (Jewish Virtual Library, 2003a). Another repercussion of the operation was the breaking down of diplomatic ties with Uganda who felt that by having the Israeli army, a foreign force land in their country without authorization; it was an undermining of the sovereignty of the nation of Uganda. The Ugandans even expressed their displeasure by taking the matter to the United Nations Security Council (BBC NEWS, 1976). The operation also caused a reaction from Israeli enemies who vowed to attack Israel even with more zeal (BBC NEWS, 1976). The standards for counter terrorism operations do not apply in the same manner for Israel as they do for other nations. This is because of Israelis geographical location which puts it in constant danger of terrorist attack. Israel is surrounded by hostile Arab neighbors who are a threat to the existence of Israel. The Middle East war also makes the standards different as the frequency of attack in Israel is very high (Jewish Virtual Library, 2003b). Another factor that contributes to the difference is the history of the Jewish people who have experienced conflict throughout with such events as the holocaust. As the Jewish people have many enemies who are also very close to them, they have to be proactive in counter terrorism and have to act on many threats. The Israeli nation can easily be reached by rockets

I must confess that I think her as delightful a creature as ever appear

I must confess that I think her as delightful a creature as ever appeared in print – Jane Austen on Elizabeth. To what extent do you believe Elizabeth Bennet to be delightful? You should consider her words and actions throughout the novel. â€Å"I must confess that I think her as delightful a creature as ever appeared in print† – Jane Austen on Elizabeth. To what extent do you believe Elizabeth Bennet to be â€Å"delightful†? You should consider her words and actions throughout the novel. Jane Austen mentions in a letter that Elizabeth Bennet is â€Å"as delightful a creature as ever appeared in print.† This quotation shows that Jane Austen clearly likes the character of Elizabeth and she thinks that Elizabeth is better than any heroine in a work of literature. The definition of delightful is â€Å"greatly pleasing or entertaining†. Therefore Jane Austen creates delight in her readers of â€Å"Pride and Prejudice†. Elizabeth Bennet could be considered delightful for many reasons. She is funny, clever, and witty so she brings delight to the reader of the novel. Elizabeth delights in anything ridiculous which also makes her a delightful character. â€Å"She had a lively, playful disposition, which delighted in anything ridiculous.† (Vol. 1, chapter 3, p. 8.6) She also enjoys teasing Mr Darcy and Mr Collins. Elizabeth’s playful character can be seen when Elizabeth delights in mocking Mr Collins about the ball. Elizabeth’s spirits were so high on the occasion, that though she did not often speak unnecessarily to Mr Collins, she could not help asking him whether he intended to accept Mr Bingley’s invitation, and if he did, whether he would think it proper to join in the evening’s amusements. (Vol. 1, chapter 17, p.72... ...e to her character because she has flaws and of course no one is perfect. Elizabeth is delightful because she can acknowledge her flaws and she is also willing to change. These are both attractive qualities. Throughout the whole novel, we can see that Elizabeth is real and ordinary. She is not blindingly beautiful and she is not extremely intelligent. This makes us relate to her even more. Heroines which are too good to be true come across in some novels as dull because they should not be perfect. Elizabeth however is a flawed heroine just like ordinary people. One could argue that she is not delightful because of her prejudice to Mr Darcy which was wrong, but at least she realised her mistake and was willing to change her attitude towards him. Elizabeth creates delight in the readers of â€Å"Pride and Prejudice† and so therefore she is a delightful character.
